Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League (PAARL) is eagerly seeking a full time Shelter Veterinarian. We are located in sunny West Palm Beach in South Florida and are only 6 miles from the nearest beach.
Your focus will be on providing excellent medical, surgical, and dental care for your patients, not the need to make a profit.
Surgery is modeled after ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance recommendations.
Ability to perform spay/neuter and any other surgeries Shelter Veterinarian is comfortable performing.
New dedicated dental suite.
Work alongside 6 other veterinarians and 35 medical support staff.
No overnight on call responsibilities.
Leave on time and spend very little time on the phone speaking to adopters and clients.
Have the ability to practice above standard of care in a shelter environment.
New equipment includes digital radiology, digital dental radiology, cold laser, in-house IDEXX CBC, chemistry, urinalysis and coagulation machines, butterfly IQ ultrasound, tonometry, and Cardell monitoring.

Training is available in HQHVSN or dentistry.
What does a typical day consist of?
Rotations through medicine, clinic, surgery, and dentistry depending on Shelter Veterinarian’s preferences.

We are a limited admission, non-profit animal shelter in a county of 1.5 million people.
PAARL has an annual intake of 7,400 dogs and cats with an overall LRR of 92%.
PAARL performed over 12,000 spay/neuter surgeries in 2021, of which over 5,000 were at no cost to the community through grant funding.
PAARL helped over 12,000 pets through our Pet Safety Net Program in 2021.
Brand new adoption center opened in March 2021. Medical building currently undergoing construction to allow for improved facility and flow. Construction scheduled to be completed in August 2022.

Education and Experience:
Must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
Must have current Florida State License or ability to obtain Florida State License before start date.
USDA Accredited Veterinarian or ability to obtain.
Provide proof of professional liability insurance.
A minimum of one year of experience in shelter medicine is preferred.
Maddie’s Certificate in Shelter Medicine, Shelter Medicine internship, or fellowship is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Must be personable, able to communicate with and direct staff, and work as a member of a team.
Effective decision making and diagnostic skills and interest in pursuing treatment options.
Must have strong computer and data entry skills. Ability to remain composed under stress.
Bilingual preferred.
Work Environment:
Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, anesthetics, and sharp objects.
Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, potential for standing on feet for 8 hours a day, animal handling and restraint in a veterinary setting.
The Mission of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of the Palm Beaches, Incorporated is to provide shelter to lost, homeless and unwanted animals, to provide spay and neuter and other medical services for companion animals, and to care for, protect, and find quality homes for homeless and neglected companion animals, to advocate animal welfare, community involvement and education to further the bond between people and animals.
