The Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine is excited to announce a position as a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor or Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor in Small Animal Soft-Tissue and Oncologic Surgery. This position is open to surgeons wanting to focus on both soft-tissue and oncologic surgery or exclusively oncologic surgery. The successful candidate will make up a team of four surgeons providing soft-tissue and oncologic surgical care to patients within the UW Veterinary Care hospital.
This position will be the fourth member of the Soft-Tissue and Oncologic Surgery service. The members of this service will work together as a team to provide excellent patient care and service to our clients. The Soft-Tissue and Oncologic surgery service combined with the Orthopedic surgery service supports 5-6 small animal surgery residents and 1-2 surgical interns. The Soft-Tissue and Oncologic surgery service is typically staffed with one faculty member, one or two small animal surgery residents, one surgical intern, one rotating intern, and 2-6 fourth year veterinary students, and 2-3 dedicated veterinary technicians. Major responsibilities of this position are divided into clinical service, teaching (clinical and didactic), research, and service. Participation in emergency and after-hours clinic duty, didactic and laboratory teaching of veterinary students, and service to the department and school is shared amongst the members of the service.

SVM has completed a beautiful new small animal hospital. In addition, upgrades are being made to the current large animal hospital include an Imaging Center with large animal-capable 3T MRI, 16-slice CT, and future PET-CT.

American College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification or Board Eligibility with advanced training in soft -tissue and oncologic surgery at time of start date. The SVM is nearing the end of construction on the new facility that will improve instruction space for students, double the size of the school's small animal hospital and significantly enhance the large animal hospital, expand labs for studying spontaneous animal and human diseases, and increase and modernize inf...ectious disease research space. Future upgrades via remodeling of the current hospital include an Imaging Center with large animal-capable 3T MRI, 16-slice CT, and future PET-CT. Completion of the addition is projected for late 2023. UW-Madison campus provides an excellent environment that encourages research.
