For over 20 years, SAFE Care Spay/Neuter Clinic, located in Raleigh, NC has been part of the solution to the problem of animal suffering and overpopulation. With over 62,000 cats and dogs altered, we have reached over 1/2 of the counties in North Carolina and impacted so many lives with our work.
Our veterinary team is waiting for you. Relief, full- and part-time spay/neuter veterinarian positions are available because we’re growing.
There are so many animals needing high quality care that we cannot keep up. Concerned about long hours and emergency on-call commitments? SAFE Care offers a consistent 8 am to 5 pm schedule, Monday through Friday – no weekends, no on-call, no evenings. Every night you’ll go home knowing that you saved lives.
Responsibilities: 1. Examine animals pre-op to determine their appropriateness for surgery. 2. Perform surgical sterilizations – between 20 and 40 per day. 3. Examine animals post-op as necessary to ensure appropriate healing. 4. Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow-up care. 5. Supervise veterinary technicians, surgical assistants, and volunteers. 6. Supervise cleaning protocols for prevention of infectious/zoonotic diseases. 7. Remain current on safe and efficacious medical protocol regarding anesthesia and surgery through continuing education. 8. Provide quality service to clients, volunteers, and staff recognizing their individual contributions to the success of the clinic.
Current DVM license in the state of North Carolina
Since opening, SAFE Haven for Cats has orchestrated the adoptions of more than 16,000 cats and kittens and spayed or neutered more than 62,000 cats, kittens, and small dogs in our clinic.
During the 2023-24 fiscal year, 1,332 cats and kittens were adopted; 7,930 cats, kittens, and small dogs were sterilized in our clinic; hundreds of animals were fed through our Pet Food Pantry; and 275 cats were temporarily housed in foster care homes.
The shelter began in the two-car, heated, and air-conditioned garage of founder Pam Miller in 1994. SAFE Haven’s first 400 cats were adopted from that garage. Five years later, SAFE Haven moved to a larger facility in a business center on Durant Road in Raleigh, opening the Triangle’s first permanent no-kill shelter for cats. In 2001, the SAFE Care Spay / Neuter Clinic was opened, a major initiative. At that time, it was the only freestanding clinic for cats in North Carolina. In 2012, SAFE Haven launched a pet food pantry to supply food to low-income households or people experiencing temporary financial hardship who are in danger of having to give up their companion animals. SAFE Haven has expanded twice and now occupies rental space in two buildings: one space for the adoption center and the other for the spay/neuter clinic.
